We will also provide some tips on how to prevent this from happening in the future.

So if your Mercedes radio display is not working, stay calm and read on!

Reasons Behind Mercedes Car Stereo Display Not Working

As we stated above, there can be several reasons why your Mercedes car stereo display is not working. Let’s take a look at some of the most common causes:

Brightness is All the Way Down

The first thing you should check is the brightness of your display. If it’s all the way down, it will be very difficult to see.

And if it’s a shiny day, the lowered brightness will feel like there is nothing in the display.

Solution

To adjust the brightness, you need to find a shade where the sunshine is not that bright. This will allow you to see the display content. If you can’t find a shade, you can use a book or something to give the display some shade so that you can see it.

Now, Go to the Menu and select System. Then, select Styles & Display on your Mercedes Comand display to find the Display Brightness option. You can adjust the brightness from -5 to +5.

I recommend going with the medium brightness so that you don’t waste power on the brightest of the display and still can see everything perfectly.

Software Bug Can Cause The Issue

This is a very common problem that can occur in any system, and your Mercedes car stereo is no different.

A software bug can cause the display to go out, and this is usually a result of an update that didn’t quite install correctly.

Or the system is overburdened and hence, it froze up.

Solution

To fix this, press the eject button for 10 seconds. This will reset your Mercedes Comand system and fix the issue.

Keep the eject button pressed until you see the Mercedes Logo pop up on the stereo display.

Display Connectors are Loose or Damaged

The display in your car is connected to the main system via a couple of connectors.

And if these connectors are loose or damaged, it can cause the display to go out.

Aside from being loose or damaged, dirt and debris in the contact points can cause the issue as well.

Solution

To fix this, you need to open up the unit and check all the connections. Make sure they are tight and not damaged. You can also try to clean the contact points with a cotton swab dipped in isopropyl alcohol.

This should fix the problem, and your display will work as good as new.

Display Fuse Blown Out

Another common reason for the Mercedes car stereo display not working is a blown-out fuse.

If the fuse is blown, it means that there is an electrical problem somewhere in the system.

Sometimes, the stereo fuse blows out and the system doesn’t get power to run. In such cases, you can easily change the stereo fuse by locating it in the fuse box.

The location of the fuse box can be found on the owner’s manual of the vehicle.

If you find that the stereo fuse is intact, there can still be a possibility that the internal fuse for the display panel has been blown out.

I don’t recommend opening the Comand system without any technical knowledge as it can do more harm to the system than good. It’s best to consult a professional to have it checked for you at this point.

Bad Display Inverter

The inverter is what provides power to the backlight of your Mercedes car stereo display. If it’s not working correctly, it can cause the display to go black.

To fix this, you can either replace the entire inverter or just the fuse. Replacing the inverter is a bit more involved and will require some technical knowledge.

So, I recommend taking it to a professional to have it done for you.

Display Panel is Faulty

If you have tried all the solutions above and your Mercedes car stereo display still not working, it’s possible that the display panel itself is faulty.

This is usually a hardware issue, and the only solution is to replace the display panel with a new one.

The display panel usually lasts a long time unless it’s been hit by something or there are some other issues in the radio system.

The Stereo Unit is Faulty

The last thing you can try is to replace the entire stereo unit with a new one.

This is usually a last resort as it’s quite expensive and can be complicated to install.

But if everything else fails, then this is the only solution left.

Mercedes Comand systems are pretty expensive and that’s why I don’t recommend attempting any fix that you’re not sure of.

How to Care for a Car Stereo Display?

There are some key things you should know to prevent issues with stereo displays-

Avoid Putting Pressure on the Display

One of the main reasons why displays go out is because people put too much pressure on them.

The display is delicate, and if you press too hard, it can cause the backlight to break or the pixels to start malfunctioning.

So, avoid putting any pressure on the screen, no matter how tempted you are.

Use a Screen Protector

If you’re worried about putting too much pressure on the display, you can use a screen protector.

A screen protector is a thin film that you can place over the display to protect it from scratches and other damage.

You can find them for pretty cheap online or at your local electronics store.

Be Careful with Cleaning

When you’re cleaning the display, be careful not to use any harsh chemicals or scrub too hard.

The best way to clean the display is with a soft microfiber cloth.

Avoid exposing the Display to Extreme Temperatures

Just like any other electronic device, extreme temperatures can damage the display.

So, avoid leaving the display in direct sunlight or in a car that’s been sitting in the hot sun for too long.

Also, don’t expose the display to extremely cold temperatures as this can also damage it.

Avoid Untrusted Mechanics for Fix

ing

When you’re taking your car to a mechanic for any repairs, make sure that you go to a reputable one.

There are a lot of untrustworthy mechanics out there who will try to upsell you on parts and services that you don’t need.

So, do your research and only take your car to mechanics that you trust.

Final Words

If you follow these tips, you can avoid any issues with your Mercedes car stereo display. But if you do run into any problems, now you know how to fix them.

I hope this article was helpful and you were able to fix the problem yourself and get your Mercedes display up and running again.

If not, make sure to take it to a professional to have it checked out for you.
